【JHS】22nd August

Today I had an ESL class at school.

We wrote sentences about what we did at the ginger factory yesterday and watched a video about animals that live in Australia in preparation for our trip to the zoo the day after tomorrow. We learned about especially dangerous creatures. (spiders, snakes, crocodiles, etc.).

We did our second presentation to the elementary school students in the afternoon. This time it went better than the first one.

After school, we took the school bus home.

I feel a little sad as we approach the second half of our study abroad program in Australia.

In the morning, I had English class. In English class, we studied Australian animals because we are going to Australia Zoo on Thursday. It was fun and I got very excited to go to Australia Zoo. At school, today was a Book Day when we could wear a book character’s costume to school. We had a costume contest at lunch time. We watched it with my friends and buddy. Some teachers were wearing costumes too. There were many unique and funny costumes. I enjoyed Book Day!

In the afternoon, I did presentations in front of primary school students. I had done the same presentation in front of junior high school students, so I was not as nervous as the last one. I think I did well because the primary school students looked like they were enjoying our presentation.

After school, I made sushi rolls with my host family. It was very delicious. Also, my host mother’s parents came to the house. I talked with them a little. They were very nice. I had a good time with them.

August 22. It was a sunny day. I woke up at 6:35 am. At school, I took ESL classes and gave a presentation on Japanese culture to primary school students. I was happy that they were interested in Japanese culture and said, "Konnitiwa!" I was glad to hear that. I also learned about Australian animals in ESL class.

After school, I went to a shopping mall with my host mother and host sister. Our host sister bought special yarns for knitting, and when we arrived home, she showed us the creations she had made with it. When I told my sister about the animals I learned about in ESL classes, she told me if they were safe and what to do if I encountered them. For example, I learned that dingoes look like dogs, but they are very vicious, so if we encountered them, we should run away as quickly as possible  or escape up to trees. My roommate and I thought if we encoutered dingoes, we would die because we could not climb trees.

For dinner, we had sushi. Japan is one of a few countries where people eat raw fish, so I was worried that my host family might not like it because there are pros and cons of its taste, but they were delighted that it was delicious. There are as many sushi restaurants in Australia as in Japan.

The study tour in Australia is my first experience of heading overseas, and I am glad that I can realize how different it is from what I imagined about overseas.
